ACA calls for agents: 2027 open enrollment

Open enrollment for 2027 coverage on HealthCare.gov runs Nov 1, 2026 to Jan 15, 2027; enroll by Dec 15 for coverage starting Jan 1. Before you buy ACA calls, check one thing: CMS paused new agent and broker registrations on the federal exchange from Sep 22, 2026 to Feb 1, 2027 for agents without a 2026 exchange agreement.

State-run exchanges can set their own dates. The moratorium does not apply to state-based exchanges (source).
Can I sell on HealthCare.gov this season?
If you had a 2026 exchange agreement with CMS, complete the Plan Year 2027 registration and training; CMS says returning agents can take a shorter course (source). If you did not, the moratorium blocks new registrations on the federal exchange until Feb 1, 2027. Do not buy federal-exchange ACA calls until your registration is in place.
What changed for consumers?
- The enhanced premium tax credits that began in 2021 expired at the end of 2025 and were not renewed (source). KFF lists that expiration as a driver of higher 2027 premiums (source).
- Medicaid work requirements start by Jan 1, 2027. People who do not show compliance are also barred from marketplace premium tax credits (source). See Medicaid work requirements for agents.
