Medicare AEP calls for agents
Last updated
The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct 15 to Dec 7, with coverage starting Jan 1. For 2027 materials, CMS changed three call rules agents should know: the TPMO disclaimer is read before benefits are discussed, sales call recordings are kept for 6 years (down from 10), and appointments can happen any time after a Scope of Appointment is signed.
What changed for 2027?
| Rule | What CMS says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| TPMO disclaimer | Read verbally before benefits are discussed | source |
| Call recordings | Keep sales and marketing call recordings for 6 years (down from 10) | source |
| Scope of Appointment | Appointment can happen any time after the SOA is completed | source |
A TPMO (third-party marketing organization) is an agency, lead seller or call center that markets Medicare Advantage or Part D plans for carriers. If you buy Medicare calls, your calls fall under these rules.
What about dual-eligible callers?
A Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) is a Medicare Advantage plan only for people entitled to both Medicare and Medicaid (source). Since 2025, duals have monthly special enrollment periods with limits on which plans they can move into (source). Check the rules before you enroll a dual outside AEP.
